You are coughing quite a bit lately, are finally becoming worried about your wellbeing and are prepared to give up smoking.

Odds are your latest attempt to give up smoking is not likely to succeed. In fact, most people fail to give up smoking.

However, the explanation is not what you might think.

The advertisements from the tobacco industry attempt to cause you to imagine that smoking is enjoyable, an actual delight. Everybody else who smokes truly enjoys smoking those superb tasting cigarettes.

But, let's face it. Long ago, when you first tried smoking a cigarette, you knew that it was terrible. It hurt to draw in that awful smoke. Your system reacted as it ought to poison by attempting to expel those deadly fumes from your lungs. You coughed and felt you had inhaled a fistful of filth.

If you can admit it, cigarettes still taste pretty bad.

The tobacco companies know they taste awful and irritate your throat. Consequently they provided a choice by adding a painkiller to some cigarette brands in the form of menthol. And menthol cigarettes are "smooth". That is, the anesthetic helps eliminate the soreness or irritation caused by the toxic tobacco smoke.

Not merely do cigarettes taste bad, they're filthy. They tarnish your teeth, soot gets into your clothes and make your hair smell. Generally, you smell terrible. Your skin is wrinkly. You've got smokers' cough and are apprehensive about lung cancer.

But, you smoke them anyway.

The reason you'll smoke another cigarette is because of the preceding one. The nicotine level in your blood has declined and you're starting to feel ill-tempered, depressed, weary, and you may be beginning to get a headache.

You require another cigarette to elevate the nicotine concentration of your blood in order to feel good, almost as good as a non-smoker.

Non-smokers don't need a cigarette. Non-smokers already feel good. Their lungs are clean and provide plenty of oxygen to feel lively. They don't feel short-tempered every few hours. They don't get headaches when they are deprived of cigarettes.

It is time to confess that the only reason you smoke those nasty cigarettes is that you're hooked on nicotine. Plus, the nicotine in every cigarette you smoke modifies your brain to make sure you feel worse and worse whenever you aren't smoking.

Every cigarette is digging a hole and you are descending deeper and deeper into that hole. Each cigarette you smoke raises you up a few feet but you plunge down harder and deeper whenever you finish smoking. You won't ever rise to the level of the non-smoker who is standing at ground level looking down at you as you struggle in your hole.

Isn't this right? Cigarettes taste horrible. They inflame your throat. They pour injurious chemicals into your body. They make you stink. They make you feel irritable. There is nothing virtuous about cigarettes.

If you were able to go backward in time and know what you know now, you never would have touched a cigarette.

The fact is, when you stop smoking, you will never give up smoking. There is nothing of any worth to give up.

If you stop smoking cigarettes, you'll give up the addiction to nicotine, the horrible effects tobacco soot has on both the inside and outside of your body. You will be giving up wasting tons of cash for all those awful things.

Consequently, never give up smoking. Give up all of the dreadful things linked to smoking.
